It was
the freezing dawn of January 9, 2003 when
the temperature in
Gilgit had become as low as minus 7ºC. The
Police found a newborn in an old grave. The
uncovered body of this child was frozen and
her face had become fully adjoined with the
soil. While removing the body, parts of her
face got damaged and her right arm muscles
were also damaged perhaps because she was
pushed inside grave while dropping. Police
brought the girl to CEENA in a shopping bag.
There were little hopes that the girl could
survive. The CEENA team kept the body in hot
water for two hours and provided constant
heat. She started crying and moving
afterwards. Then she was shifted to the
hospital and finally she recovered. She had
serious wounds on her face and after 15
days, frost bites appeared on her face and
nose. There was no hope that this child
would be adopted by any person. However,
efforts were made and her original pictures
were sent to a couple in Canada and they
accepted it wholeheartedly. They took Sania
after completing all the legal procedures.
Sania is now enjoying a happy life with her
adoptee parents in Canada and we are
extremely appreciative of the courage, extra
care and sacrifice of her parents who gave
Sania new life.
